Subs or Dubs? This is a question that has plagued the anime community for eternity. We will state our case and reasons why. This isn't really about debate, this is more or less a matter of personal choice. We, at Meganime, chose the path of subs. Why? First, our fascination with anime began long, long ago with dubbed anime. Then we chose to learn Japanese, well, I chose. What started out as learning the cadence to Japanese speakers turned into my love affair with Japanese voice actors. The actors they use in Japan are cast due to the voice matching the personality of the person they portray. A good example, Shogo Makishima voiced by Takahiro Sakurai. It is a perfect match. The character sounds diabolical when he speaks. Then when you hear Alex Organ do Shogo, it sounds as if he is an insurance salesman. It's like the character lost depth and perspective. Don't get me wrong, there are anime that have been dubbed that sound much better in English (Cowboy Bebop). But, in the case of Psycho Pass and most of anime, Japan nails it.
Each person is allowed to make his or her choice, Japanese isn't an easy language to learn. Some people prefer to listen to an English speaker and not have to focus on reading the dialog. When we post anime clips online, we prefer to use sub versions, partly because the anime are recently released so dubbed versions won't be available for several weeks or even months, partly because we believe that the voice actors in Japan put more into the performance than American actors. Bottom line is, there is no right or wrong choice. It is a matter of personal preference.
